An impressive Pre-18th Century Burmese Wooden Buddha Statue seated on a high pedestal, with lips curved upwards in a gentle smile. The eyes are painted and cast downwards, and the ears are elongated and rest on the shoulders. The lapel is shown draped over the left shoulder, falling to the waist, with a portion of the lapel draped over the right shoulder in the Pinya style which is possible in this era.

Fingernails are painted, and knobs of thayo lacquer represent hair curls with a narrow band running across the top of the forehead reaching the top of the ears on both sides.

This representation of the Buddha is seen here with a hand gesture in Bhumisparsa mudra, symbolic of overcoming the last obstacle upon his enlightenment when he overcame the temptations and wrath of the demon Mara who tried to distract him from his path to enlightenment.
