This Burmese Teak wood Nat spirit Min Lay is the brother of Min Gyi, also known as the TaungByone brothers or Shwe Phyin Brothers (Shwe Phyin Nyi Naung), the most famous Nats in Burma/Myanmar.
Every year in the town of Taung Pyone or, approximately Nine miles from Mandalay an annual festival is held to honour these two Nat spirits along with their mother Me Wanna and other members of the pantheon of 37 nats. It is a noisy and sometimes unrestrained affair of merry-making, dancing and drinking.
