A beautiful museum quality 18th Century Alabaster Ava Buddha Statue from the Shan State in Burma, seated with right-hand gesture in Bhumisparsa mudra, with fingers reaching down to touch the earth, as he called the earth Goddess to bear witness to his enlightenment.

The left hand is in dhyana mudra, with legs crossed, seated on a high thin waisted double lotus carved Pedestal, with ear flanges and a beautiful serene expression, his eyes cast downwards and a small rounded usnisa, with a short bulbous pointed finial, a popular feature seen in many Ava Buddha statues.

Remnants of a red lacquer remain in places on both the body and pedestal and painted eyes. He is seen here dressed in a plain monk’s robe with the lapel draped over the left shoulder.
